About me

I am an early career researcher for the Brain and Mind Centre at the University of Sydney. My research is focused on systems modelling approaches to analyse complex socio-technical problems. In particular, my current research is concentrated on mental health policy analysis via a System Dynamics modelling effort in which simulation models are developed through a participatory approach to understand the drivers of mental health system change and to explore system transitions to the future in Australia.

Dr Hossein Hosseini

I received my PhD in Industrial Engineering (socio-economic systems engineering) in 2016 with a focus on systems modelling and model-based policy analysis. During the past years, I have used systems modelling (especially System Dynamics simulation) in theory, technique, and application through several projects in academia, industry and the public sector. I use interdisciplinary and participatory approaches to inform policy interventions that can help achieve targets under future scenarios. My main research and work experiences include national to international problems, in Health, energy and environment, social problems, urban management, and business level issues. I have been engaged in many management consulting and strategic planning projects in which I use such interdisciplinary integrations to inform policy interventions that can help achieve targets under future scenarios. My main work experiences include strategy, business development, systems analysis, data analysis and visualization, planning, energy systems modelling and analysis, and economic evaluation.

Work Experience

2022 – now: Systems Modelling Research Fellow, The Brain and Mind Centre, The University of Sydney, Australia

My role is to develop a System Dynamics model to analyse mental health policies in Australia in which simulation models are developed through a participatory approach to understand the drivers of mental health system change and to explore system transitions to the future in Australia. 2022: Researcher, The Research Centre for Integrated Transport Innovation (rCITI) UNSW, Australia

Developed a System Dynamics model in Vensim to simulate the transport energy consumption trajectories under different scenarios in Greater Sydney to inform transport and energy system decision-makers of possible futures in this sector.
