I had the pleasure of presenting our latest system dynamics modelling study on the role of digital technologies in youth mental health enhancement in the Western Sydney PHN catchment at the University of Sydney’s Western Sydney Showcase, held at Westmead Health Precinct. This event brought together researchers and practitioners to discuss innovative projects shaping the future of Western Sydney.
Our research is part of the Right Care, First Time, Where You Live program, led by the Brain and Mind Centre and funded by the BHP Foundation. Through system dynamics modelling, we explore how digital interventions—such as online mental health services and technology-enabled coordinated care—can bridge gaps in service accessibility for young people in the region. As workforce shortages and increasing demand put pressure on traditional service models, digital solutions offer promising avenues to support mental health outcomes effectively.

Beyond sharing our findings, this event was also an incredible opportunity to engage with other researchers at the University of Sydney who are conducting diverse and impactful studies across Western Sydney. From public health and healthcare innovations to education and community-based interventions, it was inspiring to see the depth of research contributing to positive change in the region.
As we continue this work, I look forward to further discussions and collaborations that can help shape evidence-based strategies for youth mental health care—ensuring that the right support is available, at the right time, where people live.
