“Right care, first time, where you live” program

Right care, first time, where you live program– brings an evidence-based discipline to investments in Australia’s youth mental health systems that will provide young people with timely access to the right level of care, delivered early in the course of illness, and for a sufficiently long-period, to ensure that they thrive economically and socially.
The goal of this Program is to ensure more young people get back on a positive developmental trajectory towards enhanced social, educational and vocational functioning – back to school, back to work and thriving in their communities. In collaboration with local communities and their relevant health agencies, the Program is co-developing and delivering decision-support tools in eight regions across urban, regional and rural Australia. The Program harnesses tools such as systems modelling, simulation and digital technologies.

My role in this project:
I am a systems modelling research fellow at the Brain and Mind Centre, Faculty of Medicine and Health, The University of Sydney which runs the “Right care, first time, where you live” program in partnership with BHP Foundation. As a modeller, my focus in this program is on mental health policy analysis via System Dynamics modelling in which simulation models are developed through a participatory approach to understand the drivers of mental health system change and to explore system transitions to the future in Australia. Please see my academic profile on the University of Sydney’s website HERE.
