Stella

Company: isee systems

  • STELLA (short for Systems Thinking, Experimental Learning Laboratory with Animation; also marketed as iThink) is a visual programming language for system dynamics modeling introduced by Barry Richmond in 1985. The program, distributed by isee systems, allows users to run models created as graphical representations of a system.
  • The software produces finite difference equations that describe the graphical model and allows users to select a numerical analysis method to apply to the system.STELLA can output data in graphical or tabular forms.
  • The program’s native file formats are denoted either by an .stm, .stmx, .itm, or .itmx filename extension.

NetLogo

Company: Uri Wilensky

  • NetLogo is particularly well suited for modeling complex systems developing over time. Modelers can give instructions to hundreds or thousands of “agents” all operating independently. This makes it possible to explore the connection between the micro-level behavior of individuals and the macro-level patterns that emerge from their interaction.
  • NetLogo has extensive documentation and tutorials. It also comes with the Models Library, a large collection of pre-written simulations that can be used and modified. These simulations address content areas in the natural and social sciences including biology and medicine, physics and chemistry, mathematics and computer science, and economics and social psychology. Several model-based inquiry curricula using NetLogo are available and more are under development.
  • NetLogo is the next generation of the series of multi-agent modeling languages including StarLogo and StarLogoT. NetLogo runs on the Java virtual machine, so it works on all major platforms (Mac, Windows, Linux, et al). It is run as a desktop application. Command line operation is also supported.

Insight Maker

  • Insight Maker supports systems diagrams, System Dynamics modeling and Agent Based modeling.

  • Dynaplan Smia combines the strengths of spreadsheets, presentation software, and simulation into an integrated modelling environment.
  • Smia provides the modeller with powerful mechanisms for dealing with complexity. A business simulator of any size and complexity can have a simple and intuitive surface level capturing the big picture. Using drill-down into structures as well as data, the modelling experts and their colleagues inspecting or using a model can just drill down to unveil more details.
  • Smia has functions for working with statistical distribution, statistical samples, regression, statistical tests, confidence and correlation. Using stochastic functions such as Monte Carlo simulation, uncertainty distributions can be assigned to variables in a model.
  • Dynaplan Smia for desktops (Windows only) is an application for creating and running advanced simulation models. It can be easily connected to corporate databases and HR suites (like SAP BW via our certified web services).
