Recently, we launched the Right Care, First Time, Where You Live program in North Coast NSW. This program uses participatory systems modelling for youth mental health policy reform by grounding decisions in local insights, lived experience, and evidence.

As part of this work, we are co-developing systems models with young people, service providers, and community leaders. These models help make sense of the complexity of mental health systems and support more strategic and coordinated planning.

It was encouraging to see strong engagement from young people across the region. Their contributions are central to ensuring that the solutions we explore are both practical and meaningful.

Thanks to Healthy North Coast PHN and the BHP Foundation for supporting this important work. As a member of the Brain and Mind Centre’s team at The University of Sydney, I’m looking forward to the next phases of the program and to continuing to learn from and with the community.
